The upper material decides the price band
Patent PU reads dressy and wipes clean, which suits commuter and occasion ranges. Soft matte PU reads casual and takes colour well. Microfiber has a suede-like hand feel at a lower cost than real suede. Genuine leather or suede belongs in a premium tier and changes the MOQ, the lead time and the care labelling.
Printed fabric, tweed and lace move a flat into a seasonal fashion story. They sell well but date quickly, so keep the buy shallow.
Construction details buyers forget
Ask about the lasting, the toe shape and the heel counter stiffness. A soft heel counter feels comfortable in the hand but slips off the foot. The insole thickness and the lining material decide whether a customer keeps the shoes on all day.
The outsole matters more than the price suggests. A TPR outsole is the industry standard for this price band; a stitched or cemented construction changes durability and cost.
Toe shape and last shape sell the style
Almond toes are the safest commercial shape. Rounded toes read younger. Pointed toes are fashionable but need an accurate size run because fit complaints rise sharply. If you are buying for a wide-fit market, confirm that the last has been graded for width, not just length.
Size runs and grading
Confirm the size range and the grading increments in writing, and ask for the internal length in millimetres for each size. Do not rely on 'EU 36–41', because two suppliers' EU 38 will differ. If you sell online, publish the millimetre length on the product page and returns drop.
Embellishments and durability
Bows, pearls, rhinestones and metal trims are the fastest way to make a flat look more expensive. They are also the fastest way to generate returns. Ask how the trim is attached — stitched trims survive, glued trims often do not.
If the style is going to be shipped and handled repeatedly, ask for a light pull test on the trim as part of the inspection.
Packaging and presentation
Specify the polybag, the tissue, the box and the carton markings. If you sell in store, ask for a shoe box with your artwork; if you sell online, a lighter box reduces freight. Decide this before production, not after.
Confirm pairs per carton, carton dimensions and gross weight so you can calculate landed cost properly.
